the thing is, last time i looked, it still was. ;):P Science has come a long way out of philosophy's shadow, some would say "back then" (I'm thinking of Ancient Greece) that science was an equal to philosophy, however science was included in philosophy, ie scientists were labeled philosophers.

Well, they did some solid mathematics, and some solid observational astronomy. (They may have done other good stuff; I'm just familiar with the math and the astronomy.) At other times they let rhetoric take over, and their dedication to empirical evidence wasn't as strong as a modern would prefer.
