Cancer
Re: The Last Word Well ... it's not clear we are within an event horizon. Probably not, if ideas about cosmology are correct (and that includes the analysis of the available data, not just the theory).
Tim
Re: The Last Word An interesting side note. In a good chunk of the lower Mississippi River flood plain, the soil can be 1/2 a mile of more deep before you hit bedrock. . Cancer
Re: The Last Word What if: instead of the Nile' date=' Ancient Egypt was founded on the Mississippi delta.[/quote'] Interesting possibility, though the central continental US has a very different climate and geopolitics than North Africa adjacent to the Fertile Crescent. Cancer
Re: The Last Word Yeah, that may be more important than anything, though the Americas lack a native riding animal so the "horse barbarian" syndrome is less of an issue.
L. Marcus
Re: The Last Word I'd start a breeding program for llamas and alpackas. Make them bigger! Plus, their saliva ought to be napalm.
Cancer
Re: The Last Word Those camelids are South American, and don't get closer to the Mississippi than the north end of the Andes. That's about 1700 miles of great circle distance, with some rather hostile lowland jungle in between. It could be done, but it'd take a while. But I agree, assuming CourtFool is any example, llama spit could be quite incendiary.

Cancer
Re: The Last Word If there are narrow straits rather than full-width seas, even, it's still just distance. Tigers swim well, and can ride on flotsam even better.

Cancer
Re: The Last Word Yeah, I agree there. At least I've gotten used to showering with water flow rates that aren't even up to the enthusiastic pi$$ level, which extends the shower past the three-minute level.
