The VCR of Death was in/from a horror realm, and it put subliminal messages into whatever it played to subvert the watchers into doing terrible things; ultimately, it would convince them to murder someone, cut the victim into pieces, and feed the pieces into the VCR through the tape input slot, which would accept them (and consume them) tracelessly.
