Cancer
Re: The Last Word what I want to know is who was teh weirdo who first thought of eating them? A very hungry person of little taste. Snails don't bother me quite so much as stuff like cassava. Who on Earth first tried eating that? If you just pick it or dig it up and eat it or casually cook it and eat it, it kills you by cyanide poisoning. This sort of pushes it pretty far down on my list of things to munch on.... Cancer
Re: The Last Word Different classes. I've taught two different electromagnetism courses, both freshman level, one with calculus, one not. The quantum ... one class recently, and then a couple of others in the remote past. Cancer
Re: The Last Word Actually, I am credited in print as being a wizard. In the Pixaud's Practical Grimoire supplement to the old TORG RPG system, I'm among the "Wizards of the Seven Towers" (who contributed some of the spells published in that book). Cancer
Re: The Last Word Hmm. Nasty polio outbreak in the Congo region. It's killing 40% of the infected victims. Much different from the usual polio strains.

Cancer
Re: The Last Word Polio is dreaded for its long-term effects (paralysis), not its lethality. I have the impression that usually it's around 5%, tops. There seems likely to be a serious reporting bias in that 40% number ... Congo-Brazzaville is not noted for its efficient population data service ... and there could be compounding effects hidden in there as well. Still, that's an eye-popping number.
