Cancer
Re: The Last Word hours seconds minutes: why "seconds" whatever happened to the "firsts" & "thirds"? Because the origins of "hour", "minute" and "second" are Latin. And "thirds" have been used at times (though not in English, I think) to denote 1/60 of a second. Cancer
Re: The Last Word Am not. Hollerith card I have a packet of them at home, nabbed out of the recycle bin when I realized they were vanishing for good. I did a lot of coding and data transport and storage on those cards. Bazza
Re: The Last Word Oh' date=' those whacky Sumerians and their Base 60.[/quote'] Cuneiform had its points. I reckon you could do base 60 with your both your hands. edit: yep it is possible. edit 2: if you wanted to you could count to 729 (27^2) on both your hands. Don't ask me how or why, but it is theoretically and practically possible. edit 3: I'm gonna have to revise that to 24 ^2.
Bazza
Re: The Last Word 42 minutes into it as I type. They get 110 minutes. so THAT is how examiners pass the time during exams. It all makes sense now.
