Re: The Last Word

I can see where that would be handy. My work has had to jump through all KINDS of hoops' date=' converting reports to PDFs.[/quote']

OO lets you turn both Word and XLS files (and possibly others. That is what I use all the time) inot PDFs.

See if work will let you download and use it.

Mac OS X uses PDF for all 2-d images, basically, everything that appears on the screen is in pdf format.

Making pdfs couldn't be simpler, File > Print > save as PDF.

Re: The Last Word

It's available for non-Linux sources?

Well then, I don't know what I'm waiting for.

Asking if they allowed it would get me a blank look. My workplace has no internet use policy, nor does it have any policies about downloading new programs.

IIRC it is at openoffice.org and it has an XP version.

Yep. Here it is!

We only have one Mac in the store. The non-computer-savvy guy is parked at it all day.

Re: The Last Word

Well, the reminder that it comes with an equation formatter and can generate PDFs makes it very attractive for doing assignments and (in particular) solutions to same with it. I had simply forgotten it (supposedly) can do those things, so I've downloaded it to take home and hack with it there.

Re: The Last Word

you expect people who code in their spare time to also know how to write?

coding and writing are two different skills. :) I'm guessing that few coders would make good writers, hence little or no good documentation.

Linux will also struggle with usability.
