Re: The Last Word

Heh. I find that varies from state to state depending upon signage conventions. WA is particularly bad at it, IME. Except on interstates (and who needs signs there?), there are very few signs on highways here to indicate what road you're on. After you turn onto a road, you'll get one sign within a hundred yards of the intersection indicating what route you're on ... and then nothing. It may be half an hour's drive before you get another.

Re: The Last Word

I have been a passenger in my sister-in-law's car which has a talking GPS, and it would drive me up a wall. I find auditory input infuriatingly distracting while I'm decision-making while driving, and of course the unit "chooses" to talk a precisely those times. I turn off the radio while driving, because the chatter from ads and DJs who think they're funny puts me into a killing rage.

Heck; I used to live off Route 28. I find myself extremely suspicious of directional signs (West/East/North/South). I just learn which side of the highway I need to get on. I do a lot of turning-around, here in Asheville.

I totally need one of those talking GPS things.

I put some signs up on my flickr site, but I really wish I had taken a picture of this one:

It won't help your directional sense at all since it's on a North-South section of road...
