Cancer
For some reason, the escape velocity of Earth from the Solar System was an unreasonably difficult question.

Pariah
The book I'm reading now, Death from the Skies, has an interesting discussion of what would happen if micro-black holes of various masses accidentally wandered through our solar system. L. Marcus
The escape velocity of Earth would be the same as anything in the same orbit, surely.
Cancer
The escape velocity of Earth would be the same as anything in the same orbit, surely. It is, but that's not a number they've seen anywhere before. Heck, I'm giving a point if they get to Earth's orbital velocity around the Sun.
L. Marcus
60 km/s is a number that popped up in my head just now.
Cancer
Earth's orbital velocity is half that: 29.8 km/s on average, with small variations since the orbit isn't quite circular.
Pariah
Heck, I'm giving a point if they get to Earth's orbital velocity around the Sun. 6.283 AU/year What do I win?

Cancer
6.283 AU/year What do I win? For that I'd give one point out of five. And you're ahead of several of the class.
Pariah
I'll take it! (In fairness, you didn't specify preferred units....)
Cancer
I intentionally didn't specify units. I was looking for consistent treatment, which can be done in any system.

Bazza
Posting because I thought it might be of interest: A Defense of the Reality of Time Time isn’t just another dimension, argues Tim Maudlin. To make his case, he’s had to reinvent geometry. https://www.quantamagazine.org/a-defense-of-the-reality-of-time/
Cancer
Gr. I saw the article before when I didn't have time to read it, and now that I do have time the link gives me a 404 error.

Cancer
That I could read. Doesn't bother me much. That is far enough out in what I call the theoretical or philosophical boondocks that I am exceedingly skeptical, and unconvinced that there's actually enough observable "meat" involved in the discussion to have an experimental means of testing the ideas. And if it's really physics, it has to be testable.
