L. Marcus
Subatomics are teeny tiny smears of probability held together by spit, coffee, and optimism.
Bazza
If you were to say, "seeing if it's in a nearby library", that'd have decent chance of being correct. Checked the price...quite expensive so a library would be a better bet.
Cancer
Really? I don't remember my (softbound) copy being all that pricey; toward the cheap end for college textbooks these days. Yeah, $US 73. softcover ($US 121. hardbound) from the publisher. That is, sadly, on the cheap end of the range for science textbooks now. Pariah
$73 for a textbook--even a softcover--is a steal these days.
L. Marcus
... In what sense?
Bazza
As in 5-finger discount.
Pariah
The last time I was buying textbooks regularly (2005 or thereabouts), one could rarely find even a used textbook for that little.
Bazza
As Cancer will tell you at length textbooks are a racket.
L. Marcus
And not the hitting-balls kind, either.
Pariah
Although it kind of feels like that when you find out how much a semester's worth of textbooks is going to cost you.
Pariah
I was telling that joke in the 1990s. And if we knew how many fewer people were laughing at it now, we could determine the half-life of the joke itself.
tkdguy
I thought a joke had nine lives.
Cancer
And if we knew how many fewer people were laughing at it now, we could determine the half-life of the joke itself. Tkdguy is on the right track. I think jokes are like epidemic diseases, and the mathematical models for recurrent outbreaks in a non-immunized population are the right idea. tkdguy
