lemming
Re: The Last Word Most coffeemakers lead a humdrum existence. As long as you don't break the carafe -- or lose some important piece in a move -- they can last a long time. I think it's the hard water we have. Need to invest in a water softener. Cancer
Re: The Last Word That could well be. Seattle's water is soft, though things do lime up after a while. For us, it's been carafe mishaps that have led us to get new coffeemakers. We are not big coffee drinkers, so the coffeemaker gets put away and hauled out frequently, always a hazard. If we just left it on the counter it'd last longer. But I think we have the least counter space of any 3-bedroom house I've ever been in. Cancer
Re: The Last Word Languages have terms for concepts readily useful in that culture/environment. I am given to understand there's a few dozen words for different varieties of snow in Aleut, and there's a a similar number in Yiddish for different varieties of obnoxious people. By contrast, languages lack words for concepts never encountered there. Supposedly there is no word for entropy in Swahili. From which you should infer that English-speaking Americans are lazy slobs and never get muscle soreness.
