I joined via my brother, and cemented my place in it by marrying the gamer girl. It was not planned that way, but I have no complaints. Historically, they were the intellectual shock troops of the Counter-Reformation. They are most definitely part of the Catholic Church. The Jesuits were suppressed by the Pope for a few decades in the late 1700s - early 1800s, but were later reinstated or whatever the official terminology is.
