AliceTheOwl
Re: The Last Word Just another reason I'm not in med school. I'm not terribly competitive. Or rather, I'm VERY competitive, and get upset when I lose. So I opt to keep out of it entirely.
Cancer
Re: The Last Word My understanding is that once you're in med school, it's hard to flunk out: there's not much competition. But getting in is a wringer of the worst sort.

Cancer
Re: The Last Word Well, maybe my information is incorrect. I've never experienced med school, and never known anyone while they were in it.
AliceTheOwl
Re: The Last Word One of my sisters graduated, and is an OB/GYN. The other flunked. She's the better student. This is also an army school, though. That might make a difference.

Cancer
Re: The Last Word From what I've seen, there's something to that. There are fewer vet schools than med schools, and a broader range of stuff you have to learn. Having been at places with each, I'm more impressed by the vet crowd. The med people have a higher opinion of themselves, though.

AliceTheOwl
Re: The Last Word Josh and I were both so worried about Risu (and that she'd try to eat the vet) that we both went to pick her up. We were impressed with the vet. And even more impressed that, apparently, Risu behaved herself quite well.

Cancer
Re: The Last Word * nod * For the most part, that's the type my sister sees ... they have livestock. Being city folk, we see only the pet-types.

SatinKitty
Re: The Last Word Many people who want to deal/use Steroids become Large Animal Vets, for obvious reasons. I'm not saying your Niece would do that, just throwing the comment out there.
lemming
Re: The Last Word We have four vets at the sanctuary. They have a mix of skills, but one is primarily a large animal vet. I got to microchip a cat today since her old one had gone missing.

Tim
Re: The Last Word It occurs to me that large-animal medicine probably doesn't pay as well as a doctor with a private practice. Actually they make more than a small animal vet does. They just have worse hours and have to make house calls. They are also in higher demand since fewer vets go into that practice. Tim
Re: The Last Word When I picture what the large-animal vet is doing' date=' I imagine it's done in . . . poorer parts of the country.[/quote'] Vets who work the large Horse stables are large animal vets, though it takes a long internship before the pay comes in. Where my niece is going to be practicing Has LOTs of Dairy and Cattle farms, with lots of head per farm. And a lot of Amish who take very good care of their horses. Tim
Re: The Last Word Amish people have money? They moved out of Pennsylvania to Indiana where land and everything else is cheaper. So they sold their farms in Penn for a lot more than it costs where they bought. And since they don't have a lot of the expenses other farmers have due to not needing tech stuff and all that maintenance. Yeah, they do.
