Cancer
Re: The Last Word Well, I am running it on a machine that can't run any OS newer than Win98 because of small memory and slow old CPU. It does a bit better on the newer, faster Win2K box.

Cancer
Re: The Last Word It doesn't give any problems; it's just slow to open on my 1997-vintage box. Works fine (and I too like those features) once it's there.
AliceTheOwl
Re: The Last Word I use open office and don't have a problem. I like how it is able to save as PDFs or Word documents. I can see where that would be handy. My work has had to jump through all KINDS of hoops, converting reports to PDFs.
Cancer
Re: The Last Word Lemme guess: they're too cheap to buy a license for the Adobe product, so you burn a dozen employee hours a month jumping through Rube Goldberg hoops to get that done. Tim
Re: The Last Word OO lets you turn both Word and XLS files (and possibly others. That is what I use all the time) inot PDFs. See if work will let you download and use it.
AliceTheOwl
Re: The Last Word It's available for non-Linux sources? Well then, I don't know what I'm waiting for. Asking if they allowed it would get me a blank look. My workplace has no internet use policy, nor does it have any policies about downloading new programs. Bazza
Re: The Last Word I can see where that would be handy. That is what I use all the time) inot PDFs. See if work will let you download and use it. Mac OS X uses PDF for all 2-d images, basically, everything that appears on the screen is in pdf format. Making pdfs couldn't be simpler, File > Print > save as PDF.

Cancer
Re: The Last Word Well, the download dropped down to an average speed of 11 kb/s, at which point I aborted and went back for a different site. AliceTheOwl
Re: The Last Word I'm not sure I use word processing often enough at work to download it. That's the only thing holding me back. I use Excel a lot, but I haven't typed anything up in Word in ages. I suppose if I ever start typing up my story at work . . .
Cancer
Re: The Last Word Well, the reminder that it comes with an equation formatter and can generate PDFs makes it very attractive for doing assignments and (in particular) solutions to same with it. I had simply forgotten it (supposedly) can do those things, so I've downloaded it to take home and hack with it there.

Bazza
Re: The Last Word you expect people who code in their spare time to also know how to write? coding and writing are two different skills. I'm guessing that few coders would make good writers, hence little or no good documentation. Linux will also struggle with usability.
