AliceTheOwl
Re: The Last Word As I understand it, you'll get the BEST tea from getting your hands on some fairly fresh leaves, packing them in a tea ball, and steeping them in boiling hot water. I've heard American teabags described as "floor sweepings." I've also had some pretty tasty strong teas that didn't come from teabags. lemming
Re: The Last Word Mmmm ... muffins. It's a pity this campus doesn't have a decent muffin source nearby. Starbucks' muffin offerings tend to be lame' date=' IMO.[/quote'] I like their Cranberry/Orange Scone.
lemming
Re: The Last Word Starbucks teas aren't too bad, they did buy out a decent tea company. IKEA made it to the US, but Starbucks hasn't made it into Sweden. wow. I saw plenty of Starbucks in England, but it was awful. I don't know what was up with that. Their coffee is a bit burnt in the US, but there was something just plain wrong with it there. And I was able to find decent coffee while in England. (Even thought the cafe near my work would serve you coffee by scooping some instant out of a bowl on the counter into a mug and pour hot water. )
AliceTheOwl
Re: The Last Word Y'know, if I actually got to visit England, I think I'd switch to getting my caffeine fix from tea.
lemming
Re: The Last Word You just need to look around for it and from what a friend of mine tells me, the coffee is easier to find than it was in 2000.
AliceTheOwl
Re: The Last Word But . . . tea is so English! Okay, maybe not, but it's one of the top 10 things I think of when I think about England.
Cancer
Re: The Last Word On our honeymoon (June 1997) to the Cook Islands, we took coffee with us, and were glad of it. They couldn't make decent coffee there to save their souls.

Cancer
Re: The Last Word OK when you got it fresh, but with all the hot beverages they tended to make it once and leave it on the warmer all day. So their tea at breakfast was passable though not great. Otherwise ... yuck.

Cancer
Re: The Last Word Actually, what turned us off was the taste. My guess is the natives don't drink any hot beverage, so they have no idea what it's supposed to be like, and no real motivation to learn. AliceTheOwl
Hmm. Sounds kind of like the New England Iced Tea situation. In other words, if you're ever in a New England state, don't order the iced tea.

AliceTheOwl
Re: The Last Word Yep. I'm going to miss it when I go back up north. Though . . . does McDonald's carry it all over, or just in its Southern locations?

AliceTheOwl
Re: The Last Word It's been all over billboards 'round here, and a lot of their ads are worded in a way that makes me think they're trying to compete with Chick-Fil-A. The idea strikes me as slightly absurd.
Cancer
Re: The Last Word That's a null reference to me. I stared blankly, then went to their web site. Apparently there are no Chick-Fil-A's in Washington.
