Re: The cranky thread

What's the book? I'm going thru some depression lately' date=' but I'm pretty sure I know the root cause on that one right now. (Getting something done about it, trickier atm)[/quote']

"Teach Yourself Cognitive Behavioral Therapy". I think there's a "...For Dummies" and "Idiot's Guide..." as well. I have a "Personal Development all-in-one for dummies" which includes CBT, Neuro Linguistic Programming, Building Self-Confidence, and Life Coaching. Just reading it is helpful, doing the actual exercises and working to change negative thoughts and behaviors will take a while, but it's designed to be used in conjunction with brief therapy--6-20 sessions. So if you set reasonable goals and work at it, you should get results in weeks to months, not years.

Reading a book on Cognitive Behavioural Therapy. I'm cranky because it hits me' date=' "Why didn't I read this friggin' thing DECADES ago?" A very strong recommendation for anyone plagued by negative thoughts, depression, anxiety, obsession, etc. Hopcroft, I'm looking in your direction. ;)[/quote']

I don't suffer from any of things. I enjoy every moment of them. :idjit:Yes! Life is good, I tell you!!!

That sucks. Does your school have a strong anti-plagiarism policy?

I think it's pretty strict. ESL students get a break, though, because of the possibility of cultural misunderstandings: for the first offense, they get a zero on the assignment and a stern warning, but it doesn't go on the permanent record. After that, they're at the tender mercies of the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences.

We filed our divorce papers today. Hearing on November 1st' date=' and that should be that. My mood is in the sub-sub-basement this morning, but should get better by afternoon. Oh well, now I may get the opportunity to live up to my username. :eg:[/quote']

No matter how you feel about the divorce, there is some feeling of loss. Once it's over you get some closure. But give yourself a mourning period and be gentle with yourself.

Yep. I'm allowing myself to feel sad, when I feel sad about it. But I'm moving forward with my life, at warp speed, because I have to. Everything I want to achieve in life requires overwhelming confidence and energy, and it requires it ASAP. I don't have time to wallow in self-pity or relapse into lethargy. I have to go out, start my legal career, get in shape, upgrade my wardrobe, transform my interactions with women, etc. I'm not feeling panic, just urgency, and I'm rolling with it.

Sick of people telling me it's the 50th anniversary of James Bond. Casino Royale was written in 1952 and published in 1953.

Or don't books and authors count any more?

They do, but there are many who's only exposure to literature is watching the movie based (loosely) on the book. You should view this as an opportunity to let them know about the written form, just in case they're interested.

Re: The cranky thread

My arterial access didn't clot properly today. While driving home, it started bleeding. The passenger seat of my car now looks like someone got stabbed in it.

I tried to clean it, but the upholstery is cloth ... that's not coming out.

A couple of years ago, my wife tripped and fell backwards onto a wine glass, which shattered and skewered the back of her leg like a spearpoint. There was a lot of blood on the sofa, which we couldn't clean until several hours later, after the trip down to accident & emergency.

That was a Valentine night we won't forget.

You may not get it all out, but you probably can reduce it to a minor stain, which is what we managed on cloth sofa similar to car upholstery. Tougher when it's dried, but still doable: try here and here.

Frack! Just got notice today the hearing's been delayed 4 weeks, until the 29th. Thanks, judicial system!
