MisterVimes
Re: The cranky thread The four most hated words in any relationship. "We need to talk." And after only two months, my girlfriend is now my friend. Take it from me, getting back into dating after a divorce is a tough process. But you've proven that you can do it, now you move on to the next one and so on, until you find one who sees how amazing you are. Because, believe me amigo, you are. John T
Re: The cranky thread The four most hated words in any relationship. "We need to talk." And after only two months, my girlfriend is now my friend. Actually, my vote will forever go to "I love you, but..." Samsonite has less baggage overall than I do regarding that comment alone. That aside, sorry to hear this. Even "still being friends" afterward feels... suckier. Whether that's a real word or not.
Enforcer84
Re: The cranky thread Oh it is indeed. But she's the first girl I dated after my divorce in 2005...and the second girl I've dated. So I'm 40 feeling 17 and I keep getting images of ending up like my father. Though I have no sons who hate me

CrosshairCollie
Re: The cranky thread Call me un-American if you wish, but I am sick to freakin' death of fireworks. People been shooting them off for three damn weeks, all hours of the night. Sick and tired of getting woke up at 2am by explosions. Loud, the whole neighborhood stinks of whatever's in those things, and in this heat, they're even MORE dangerous. The holiday is on the Fourth of July, not 'Early June to Middle of July'. You shoot the things off on the Fourth, and ONLY the Fourth.
Zen Archer
Re: The cranky thread I've had a dislike of fireworks for many, many years now. Starcloud
Re: The cranky thread This year, most states in the USA have declared fireworks illegal to use, due to drought or fire conditions. There's only six or seven states where it's still acceptable.

Still selling fireworks at the grocery store in town though there was a sign saying that no fireworks to be set off until July 24. If the conditions are the same, hoping they make the right decision before the pioneer day stuff. Oh, there are people in town playing with fireworks though. yay! fire! If there's a good side to the storms we've had that caused over 2 million folks to loose power for several days, it's that the ground is nice and wet, so the fire risk level is low. MisterVimes
Re: The cranky thread I am fortunate to live in an era with a great deal of cultural diversity, that being said, some of my neighbors (correctly) equate "Holiday" with "Holy Day" and have noted that Americans set off fireworks on "Holy Days". As a result, Christmas, New Years, Easter, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, and any other date that appears in red writing on the Calendar is greeted with fireworks -- usually at midnight. AmadanNaBriona
Re: The cranky thread I have fallen to what the Welsh call Hiraeth, a deep, bitter, intense longing for the things I've lost. I tried to watch porn today and it reduced me to tears, with the realization I'm too broken to even try anymore. Funny, the more my friends and family seem to try and help me, the worse it gets when I'm alone. I think my brain has decided I'm at fault for all that bewoes me, and is taking out on me
