tkdguy Posted February 22, 2012 Report Share Posted February 22, 2012 Re: The cranky thread Just a quick heads-us: If you get a toll-free call like 800-466-5259 and you get an automated message that won't inform you what the call is about, it's bogus. It has been traced to a collection agency, but I strongly suspect it's a scam. If you get an actual person, which is unlikely, the person is rude and unprofessional, and even refuses to acknowledge why he/she called you. They may identify themselves as being "from the Office of Scott Windsor" which is probably not the real name or from "Mercantile Adjustment Bureau" which is a legitimate business. However, I do know that scammers often falsely represent legitimate businesses. I did some online research on the number, and the FCC has gotten over 70,000 complaints since 2009. Just be warned. I can't use the stair handrail and I have trouble getting down. I also had to scoop the catbox with my left hand. Awkward. I just noticed it today and I must have gotten it today or yesterday. If any were broken I wouldn't be able to walk at all. Of course, I did earn that green belt on a cracked ankle all those years ago so who knows. What happened is that I downloaded some sound effects which I thought I needed for a project (but it turned out they were different from the ones I wanted), and some adware got installed as well.
