My wife just got layed off. The part that really blows is that she's scheduled for hip surgery next month.
Narf the Mouse
Re: The cranky thread Last fall the School district moved my 4 year old son from the school he had been in the year before, to one about 8 miles down the road. He is supposed to be getting speech therapy. there were a lot of problems when they rolled the therapeutic pre-school into the ECEAP program, which some have described as a day care for low income kids. We were not happy, but they did finally manage to straighten out most of the problems... Today they gave my wife some new paperwork. Apparently they are being audited, and in the process they realized that my son is NOT an ECEAP student. Now, they start the 2 hr 20 minute period with a roughly 30 minute LUNCH. My son rarely eats much of it, because he has usually eaten breakfast shortly before. I work swing shift, so I don't get him up at 0700, 0900 is plenty early. Now they are apparently talking about charging us for ALL THOSE LUNCHES. If they try, I am going to raise a stink that will probably smell all the way to the state capitol. THEY made a mistake. THEY forced us to take him to a school we really didn't like in the firstplace. THEY mandated the lunches. THEY never said a word to us about charging for them. (The fact that they usually throw away huge amounts of food afterward is another little pet peeve. ) This could get ugly. On top of that, I had a flat tire on my way to work. When I went to change it, I discovered that the proper lug-wrench was for some reason NOT in the car. I had my wife drive down to where I was (8 miles or less), but she did not have a proper wrench in her car either. There were two lug wrenches, one in each car, but both were just enough too big, so they spun. I sent her down to pick up a new one, which she brought me. I put the Donut spare on, and then took it down to get 4 new tires. All were fairly worn, and it is a 4 wheel drive Subaru... I got off fairly cheap, ONLY 182 bucks that I sort of have... BLECH! Bureaucrats. Give some people a little power and it goes straight to their head.

Old Man
Re: The cranky thread I get allergy shots' date=' yes. Narf the Mouse
Re: The cranky thread It's supposed to make you less sensitive (sensible?) to the allergens. But, apparently, not permanently. Although if someone has more information on that, I'd love to hear it. And yeah, it's "sensitive".
CrosshairCollie
Re: The cranky thread My wife and I had planned to go see a movie Friday. Her mom called earlier that day and needed her help with something, so we had to skip. We had rescheduled for today. My wife has gotten sick with a nasty cold or allergies or something, and we're having to pass again. There's usually only two movies in a whole year we both want to go see in the theater. Does life HAVE to interfere?
Cancer
Re: The cranky thread I seem to have one or more disaffected students in my electromagnetism-for-pre-meds class this term who are signing me up on the "leave your name address & phone" web forms for companies selling medical assistance (these are the guys who sell Viagra, among other things), expensive electronics tech classes, and retirement communities. Such fun.

Cancer
Re: The cranky thread The onslaught began a day or two after I gave the students printed notes of the scores I had for them in the grade book, and the results of the course grades I'd give if those were, in fact, the only things I had to make grades from, with the type of curve I tend to make. (I always curve, unless the class is too small.) I agree with your charitable (of me) assessment, but I do so precisely because that's what it is.
