lemming
Re: Longest Running Thread EVER I don't wear watches. I wound up having a reaction on my skin under the watch band when I was a dish washer. (I think it had more to do with the soap they used.) And I just never started wearing them again. My wife tried for years, but I'm rough on them. I think the one that survived the longest was the swiss army watch. I find enough devices with the time on them. When I'm out doing photography, my camera has a clock in it as well.
SteveZilla
Re: Longest Running Thread EVER I'm actually more surprised that someone still wears a watch in this current era of smart phones. Actually' date=' I'm not entirely surprised. My dad has a huge watch collection.[/quote'] I continue to wear a watch even though I have (recently) gotten a smart phone. I find it much easier to just glance at my wrist instead of digging into my pocket and then orienting the phone upright when I want to check the time. Cancer
Re: Longest Running Thread EVER Well, for me the obstacle is drawing the map, not figuring out where stuff is. Math is easy; art is difficult.

Cancer
Re: Longest Running Thread EVER [Fe/H] = -0.3. In other words, its heavy element proportion is down from the Sun's by a factor of 2.

Cancer
Re: Longest Running Thread EVER ... That's pretty poor. Does Fe scale reliably to the other heavier elements? Actually, -0.3 in the log is a modest abundance difference. "Metal-poor" starts at about -1. "Very metal-poor" starts at about -2. "Extremely metal-poor" starts at about -2.5. Cancer' date=' have you seen ProFantasy's Cosmographer software? I knew it existed, and that's about it. I haven't yet had to make such a map, and I doubt I'll buy a product just to make this. I've had some success in the past creating image files of starscapes out of whole cloth programmatically with Python, but I haven't tried adding text legends to them that way. I have the whole ProFantasy suite myself. It took several years to amass, and I am also a beta tester for them, and have received some of the products for free because of that. In my current state of gaming, I wouldn't buy any of their stuff because I game so infrequently and I tend to do most of my stuff in Photoshop these days. EDIT: That said, there is a lot already done in the software for star systems, so it might be worth spending the money to save a whole bunch of time and effort.
