Longest Running Thread EVER

Re: Longest Running Thread EVER

I'd like to learn how to weld aluminum. I don't want to spend a bucketload of money on equipment, so I think that rules out TIG welding, and leaves just regular gas welding. I'm looking to weld some tubing with a wall thickness of 3/64" -- easy, moderate, or hard to learn?

Re: Longest Running Thread EVER

I've only done sheet-metal welding for aircraft, but I'm thinking aluminum can't be that much more different. I had it "mastered" after about 2 hours of practice. The idea being that if you bend the two pieces at the joint, the weld doesn't break before the metal does.

Most airplanes' sheet-metal *is* aluminum...:)

Mainly, I want something that is sturdier than soldering, and possibly could be anodized.

To be technical it's aluminum-alloy, but I did say it can't be much different, assuming that it wasn't the same type of alloy.
