SteveZilla
Re: Longest Running Thread EVER I'd like to learn how to weld aluminum. I don't want to spend a bucketload of money on equipment, so I think that rules out TIG welding, and leaves just regular gas welding. I'm looking to weld some tubing with a wall thickness of 3/64" -- easy, moderate, or hard to learn?
Cancer
Re: Longest Running Thread EVER No idea. Never looked into it. My dad did some modest metal sculpture for a time, but only worked with brass.
RPMiller
Re: Longest Running Thread EVER I've only done sheet-metal welding for aircraft, but I'm thinking aluminum can't be that much more different. I had it "mastered" after about 2 hours of practice. The idea being that if you bend the two pieces at the joint, the weld doesn't break before the metal does. Mainly, I want something that is sturdier than soldering, and possibly could be anodized.

To be technical it's aluminum-alloy, but I did say it can't be much different, assuming that it wasn't the same type of alloy.

Why not wait until they are made from an alloy of trinium, carbon, and naqahdah?
