Cancer
Tuberculosis, as it used to be called.
L. Marcus
Took half of grandpa's siblings.
Cancer
I don't recall any TB deaths in my family tree, but I haven't delved that deeply into it.
L. Marcus
It was endemic up here right up to the mid-20th century. It's a bother to cure -- six months on up to four very heavy antibiotics.
Cancer
Yeah. I am most familiar with it (as an adult; as a kid I had regular TB tests that were annoying) from it being strongly resurgent here in the AIDS epidemic.
L. Marcus
There are some resistant strains coming in from the east that are cause for some concern.
Cancer
Yup. The same could be said for influenza as well, but antibiotics are of no help with that.
L. Marcus
You up to date with your vaccines?
Cancer
Haven't had a flu shot (in years). Most of the others, yes. Though I shocked my doctor long ago by admitting I had never had a measles vaccination ... since I had had a significant case of the disease when I was 5. L. Marcus
How about the smallpox? I got inoculated as a kid, at the end of that program.
Cancer
Multiple times I got the smallpox vaccination. I think the last time was in 1970; the UK (which I visited in summer 1970) was really particular in requiring recent vaccination for that. L. Marcus
Silly brits.
Cancer
I was 13 at the time, and the US Army hospital was more than willing to give me the vaccination, so there wasn't any issue.
L. Marcus
Say, did you catch any of the original run of Monty Python?
Cancer
A little, but only a little. That came out at least partly while I an undergrad, and I was watching very little TV then. But I do recall a couple of first-run episodes. I also saw a few episodes of first-season Saturday Night Live in first run (including the very first Mr. Bill sketch). Cancer
Last week of classes. Wonder if I can make it. Wonder if I'll have a new kitchen before 2016.
L. Marcus
Sure you will!
Cancer
Dunno. We played some Arkham Horror the day before Thanksgiving. "Lost in space and time" is sorta how this kitchen thing is starting to seem like.
L. Marcus
That is so cool!
Cancer
If you're big on being devoured by Nyarlathotep, perhaps.
L. Marcus
We played a game last summer. Don't remember what it was called, but it was apparently a simplified version of Arkham Horror. And if that was simpler, I have trouble imagining how complex AH is.
Cancer
Yeah, it's a long and complex game, that IME does not often end happily.

Pariah
Yeah, Lovecraft isn't exactly known for his happy endings.
