Old Man
This class has pre-meds. Use one femtosomething of a topic that isn't in the catalog syllabus, and You Will Pay. Pay whom?
Cancer
Chairs, deans, and so on. Flak-catchers more interested in public image than pedagogy.
Cancer
Meanwhile, found a serious issue with the university's website. As in, something University Counsel seems likely to want fixed yesterday. They might actually have the clout to get those vapid cretins to fix it.
L. Marcus
What on Earth is up with Kaisershlauten?
Old Man
Is that a pejorative for Trump that I haven't heard yet?
Cancer
Back in the 1970s, Kaiserslautern was site of a major USAF base; I was with the high school soccer team when we beat them 1-0 at their place in the spring of 1971. It seems to be one of the places that had nothing left going for it when the US went home after the Soviet Union collapsed. Seaside California is a town that abuts what used to be Fort Ord, formerly a major US Army training base near Monterey Bay. Unlike Kaiserslautern, I lived there for a year in the mid-1960s. When the fort closed (in the late 1980s?), the major employer for the town was gone, and it went into economic blight.
L. Marcus
Blight. That's a good word.
Old Man
Unless you lived in/around Fort Ord in the late eighties.
Pariah
The derivative, 'blighter', is a pretty good word, too.
Cancer
In other news, I think it's going to rain here forever. This stream of clouds now dumping on us goes southwest past Hawaii.
Old Man
If you don't like the rain, why do you live where you live? It's narrowly missing me by a few inches at the moment. A little disappointing; they've been promising me thunderstorms for days now, and so far nothing.
Cancer
Oh, the rain is better than many alternatives; that this soak will go on for the better part of a week is going to get monotonous. OTOH, it is kind of fortuitous to happen now, with next week being Finals Week. Usually we have a distracting sun break right before finals. lemming
It's been raining non-stop in Portland it seems. (Like usual)
L. Marcus
Very wet in places, I'm given to understand.

Cancer
I can't do that; running a time trial by myself is my check on exam length. Pariah
