L. Marcus
The student in the act of cheating. Ooh! That makes much more sense!
Cancer
How To Draw Golden Ratio Spirals Oddly, I've been looking at the mathematics of spirals for RPG reasons recently, chiefly the logarithmic and Archimedian spirals (the golden spiral is a special case of the logarithmic). Did you find it useful?
Cancer
Indirectly; it got me looking at a few related things and found something that looks more promising than what I had intended. And it made me pull my old spherical trig textbook off the shelf and put it in my briefcase.
L. Marcus
But don't astronomers use spherical trigonometry in everyday life?
Old Man
No, but their computers do.

Cancer
But don't astronomers use spherical trigonometry in everyday life?Used to, but as Old Man indicates, nowadays we have machines for the routine stuff. If you're looking to do something new, well, now you haul out your old textbook because it's been twenty-some years since you last did it from first principles, and you can't remember the cosine law from that far back. Pariah
Doesn't the cosine law mean you have to pay if the other person defaults? Bazza

Cancer
Of course, if you really want to cause fear and loathing ... call it the real-world equivalent of yelling out "Hastur!" in a public place, something so horrible that considerable blocks of people will move away, given the option ... all you need to do is mention Bessel functions. Old Man
You bastard. I know you spoilered it, but still, trigger warning, please. And could someone please fetch me the defibrillator?
Cancer
Sorry, it's Finals Week here starting Monday, and we're all a little unsettled in terms of mental stability. The usual seasonal thing, but still, insensitive of me.
Old Man
Kidding. Sort of. I suspect I'd have had an easier time with Bessel functions had the class been taught in English. Then again, maybe not.
