Bazza Posted April 8, 2015 Report Share Posted April 8, 2015 Bazza, there are lots of resonant effects in orbital mechanics, and the Earth-Venus system is one such. So while I hadn't seen that graphical presentation before, I kind of knew some of the information that went into making it. OTOH, those resonant conditions can change. They tend to be stable for extended periods of time, and then undergo a "sudden" large change. This is the way of chaotic systems, in the modern mathematical meaning of chaos. Lots of studies of the dynamical evolution of the Solar System have been done, though I don't know of a layman-level book I can direct you towards on this topic.
