L. Marcus
Re: Longest Running Thread EVER I get a haircut about three times a year. But since my MPB is getting more and more obvious, I'm thinking about doing the easy thing -- using my trimmer.
archermoo
Re: Longest Running Thread EVER I've been putting off getting my hair cut. Probably another month or so... I've been putting mine off too, but it'll be longer than a month before I do it.

Cancer
Re: Longest Running Thread EVER This question concerns violent relaxation. Consider a galaxy composed entirely of degenerate dwarfs and a few secretaries. Estimate the frequency of two-and three-body interactions, taking into account relevant excitation modes, spin-orbit coupling, pressure broadening, and physically probable pumping frequencies; describe some of the more interesting cases. What process(es) controls the relative populations of first-ascent and horizontal branch stars? What fraction of the initial galaxy ends up in the kinematically hot population? If this galaxy suffers a close encounter with another similar one, will they merge or will complete disruption occur?
lemming
Re: Longest Running Thread EVER While I did very well in my intro Astronomy course at UCSC, that question is boggling. I claim since it's been 25+ years since my course, that must be why. yea, that's it.

Cancer
Re: Longest Running Thread EVER Well, Lynden-Bell coined the term "violent relaxation" back in the '60s or 70's, I think. I remember making jokes about it in 1978.
