Cancer
Re: Longest Running Thread EVER My daughter spotted a pileated woodpecker here on Friday. (Hmm. If you leave the 'i' out of pileated, you get 'pleated', which is quite a shift in meaning for one letter dropped.)
SatinKitty
Re: Longest Running Thread EVER That cat vs cactus film is painful to watch. And that was a property primarily for a porcupine’s quills. Depends on the cactus, but I don't think the cat was getting any stuck in it. However, you can get just the tips stuck in you and they break off. That's annoying as all get out and the time it happened to me, a lot of soaking in epson salt. AliceTheOwl
Re: Longest Running Thread EVER She wasn't stuck by any of the spines, and they didn't embed. She was just reacting to the "Hey, it's sharp!" of the cactus, not recoiling in pain. If it actually caused her a significant amount of pain, she'd cut it out. We're talking about a cat so sensitive that she yowls in pain when she's gently lifted into a person's arms. I'm teaching her how to prepare herself for being picked up so it doesn't hurt. IME, the latter isn't much of a meaning shift at all: the similarity of words cleverly suggests the existing strong overlap in the phenomena. (FWIW, I have no garage, so I keep my garbage elsewhere.) AliceTheOwl
Re: Longest Running Thread EVER BTW' date=' where might I see this film?[/quote'] Embedded in the thread, above. Also, if you look for "cat vs cactus" on YouTube, it's the first link. I only have a minute to be online, or I'd link you directly.

Old Man
Re: Longest Running Thread EVER Cats routinely destroy house plants, actually. I have witnessed this myself. Usually the plants are unable to present an effective defense, though, like the cactus did.
Cancer
Re: Longest Running Thread EVER I've seen that too, which is why I asked. I've also seen my cats do to fresh cut catnip. Ugg-lyyy.

AliceTheOwl
Re: Longest Running Thread EVER Does the cat attack other house plants? Yes. We specifically got little bits of grass, so she could destroy it to her heart's content. She nibbled at it a bit, then ignored it. Figures. Cancer
Re: Longest Running Thread EVER What I can't figure out is how some folks we know (one of my son's friends) manage to grow a substantial amount of catnip in their garden. No moat, no electric fences, no swarms of attack dogs, nothing. And I've seen cats wandering around that neighborhood.

AliceTheOwl
Re: Longest Running Thread EVER He a good cat? Oh, yes. He gives me high fives and begs for attention by tapping my elbow with his paw. If you tell him to wait a moment, he sits patiently and watches you from afar. Oh em gee. Josh, put a shirt on! Heh. He didn't realize he was in the shot.
