unclevlad
SLOW!!!!!!!!! WAY back when, I remember getting a notification that I was included as a member of the class, in a class action lawsuit, because I'd purchased a DVD drive. Several, actually, probably. The suit goes back to 2010. Yeah. 2010. I got the first notice and a settlement opt-in. The monetary verdict was decided in 2016. I got the payment set up...an Amazon gift card number will get emailed in the next day or two...*today*. It's about $12, so...not like I can fly to the Bahamas on it..... 12 years to get a case resolved.... We know the only group to make anything of this was the lawyers, and the service firms that managed the distribution of all this.......... Logan D. Hurricanes
I just got that notice, too. I wonder if we're in the same class-action suit. I was told I'm getting just over $7.
unclevlad
Almost certainly. The whole point of a class action suit is to consolidate things. I can vaguely remember getting the early notices...soooo long ago. I think it was before 2010, actually, but I might be hallucinating. Logan D. Hurricanes
2010-ish sounds right. I, too, forgot all about it.
Ragitsu
Slow. I don't want to say too much, but...it can be years from when a case is first put into motion to when it actually begins.
Pariah
The legal system can be extremely slow, kind of like plate tectonics. The main difference is that plate tectonics ultimately results in noticeable changes.

unclevlad
ah, so simply glacial, rather than tectonic.... I can buy that.... Half of this is, honestly, I never really expected to get *anything*, particularly when years went by without any kind of notice.
Duke Bushido
You had to wait for the lawyers to pocket the award, put it in the bank, let it grow interest, then give everyone involved one-tent of one percent of that interest. Class action suits do not exist to punish unethical businesses; they ezist to enrichen lawyers- the only actual "winners" in a class-action suit.
