Pariah
Alex Trebek, beloved 'Jeopardy!' host, dies after cancer battle at age 80 Rest in Peace, Mr. Trebek. Thank you for being a part of my life for all these years. King Red, Ragitsu, archer and 1 other 3
tkdguy
Jeopardy was probably the only game show I actually enjoyed watching. RIP. Ragitsu and Pariah
Cancer
I admit that was true when I watched it on daytime TV back when Art Fleming was host in the 1960s and 70s. Trebeck was a worthy successor. RIP, sir.

unclevlad
Well 2020 certainly sucks, but... I'm not as sad as I might be because, hey, he held on for a year. And *magnificently*. Rest in peace, sir. You will not be forgotten.

death tribble
I thought this would be about who the forum thought was the best gameshow host. I first came across Mr Trebek through The X-Files where he teamed with Jesse Ventura as Men in Black in the wonderful Jose Chung's From Outer Space. Here is the BBC obituary article https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-54867011 RIP Cygnia

archer
I admired him as being the only celebrity I know of who had both intelligence and knowledge. Intelligence is great. There's a lot of smart people out there. But there aren't many people who come across as a Renaissance man rather than a specialist.
Ragitsu
I always preferred Jeopardy over Wheel of Fortune; the former show not only required a broad base of knowledge, but it also encouraged an interest in various subjects. I do not believe so. His last shows were taped just before Halloween, IIRC...I'm thinking they might not tape during the week of election day because it might be a bit of a mess. Anyway, they usually taped 5 shows in a row, on the same day; it was mentioned they didn't. 3 that day, the last 2 the next day. Seems like he wasn't doing well. But nothing else was said, that I can recall. Maybe a hint before the taping on that first day, but nothing after that. For those who don't know but care to know: the last taped episode will be aired Christmas Day. And as of right now, no, his replacement has not been picked. I've heard reports that his final match will air right before Christmas in most markets. It will be a bittersweet experience to see it. Cygnia
I'd hope for Ken Jennings, but I know he's one of the guys on tap for a reboot of "The Chase".

Pariah
The producers of the show recently announced that they will have a series of interim/guest hosts until a permanent replacement is chosen. It's not entirely surprising that the first of these will be Ken Jennings.

Whether he's the best choice long-term, well, we'll have to see. I expect Brad Rutter will host for a bit too. He has the media experience and historical significance. After that, who knows. Pat Sajak is plausible for a short run, as a personal tribute. Update on final shows: plan is now to air "10 of his best episodes" in the 21 and 28 December weeks, then his final week starting January 4th.
